Faith Leaders

This message is directed to all those men and women engaged in helping to shape the minds, hearts and souls of people from college students to seasoned professionals.

“Nothing is as boring as a purposeless existence.”
– Bishop Fulton J. Sheen

Happiness is the aim of life—virtue is the foundation
of happiness.”
– Thomas Jefferson

What you can do, maybe I can’t do… and what I can do, maybe you can’t do. But together we can do something beautiful for God.”
– Mother Teresa

There have been so many incredible leaders like the three above who have had such a profound impact on humanity. And, so many countless others who day in and day out devote themselves to helping and serving the needs of people.

So, one more notable quote.

The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who sought and found how to serve.”
– Albert Schweitzer

The recent events in our country and the world—specifically the Covid-19 Pandemic—have caused many Americans to pause and re-think what life is all about and that our life can be turned upside down in a heartbeat.

My daughter is a clinical psychologist and like many other psychologists, psychiatrists and mental health professionals, her caseload is full! The stress and unsettledness of our life challenge even the most stable and mature among us.

It’s sad to think that it sometimes takes an event like 9-11, the 2008 Financial Crisis or the Covid-19 Pandemic to awaken us to what is really important in our life, and how we want to spend each and every day so that we feel excited and truly fulfilled at our chosen career.

I believe that within most of us lies a deep need to do something meaningful—something that gives satisfaction to our soul and provides a spiritual reason for being. Each person has the potential to make important contributions to society. Knowing yourself at a deeper level is the first step to identifying and understanding what that potential is.

One of my Core Themes graduates was an esteemed attorney who spent many hours in the courtroom utilizing his legal expertise to win cases. But, something was missing and as we were progressing through the Core Themes process, I asked Doug this question, “If you could do anything, what is the one thing you would wish to do that would make you happy and fulfilled.” As he looked out to the Atlantic ocean from our beautiful ocean-front office, he said, “I would like to bring as many people to the Lord that I could from my work.” It has been some 15 years and Doug and his lovely wife Joyce have devoted their lives to doing the Lord’s work. They have brought their Christian faith to college campuses in Singapore and in the U.S.

They are truly Faith Leaders in every sense of the word!

As Faith Leaders please consider this one important question:

How do you want to spend the time that God has given to you?” And when you can answer this question you have answered so many others such as what you do for your life’s work, where you choose to live, and who you choose to live with, what hobbies and interests do you pursue in your personal time, and the list goes on.

Core Themes is a very unique process that takes you deep into understanding yourself and thereby being in a better place to answer this all-important question.
